Here are some pictures from my time in Florence this past weekend. I had a nice time despite it raining all day long on Sunday. I only had flip flops and my feet got soaked!
I saw a lot of monumental buildings that were quite impressive. But I have to say that I actually think Bologna has more charm and character as far as the architecture of the regular buildings go. There are more details, brighter and richer colors and textures here in Bologna than in Florence. But Florence was enjoyable no doubt. Here's just a sample of pics I took with my phone:

Took a walk with my hosts, Stefano & Linda, this river is near their house.

At the Duomo.

Colorful building, shutters, & laundry! Walking from the bus stop to the home I was staying at.

I climbed to the top of another tower! This was Giotto's Bell Tower, right next to the Duomo (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore). 414 steps, 276 feet tall. Building started in 1334 and completed in 1359. WOW!

I have no idea what this drink was, but it was good and strong! We met up with some friends for aperitivo. For the cost of a drink (this one was 10 euros!) you have access to all you can eat appetizer/tapas-like food.

Earlier in the day I escaped out of the rain and into a cafe that has been open since 1844! This was a delicious tiramisu and cream filled pastry. And a warm cappuccino.

My trusty umbrella (which has been with me on my travels since 2006 when we went to the U.K.!) kept me mostly dry.

Buona sera, Nadia!
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't become fluent in Italian while you were gone, I cheated via ehow!
How's it going?
Did you have any pictures of the couple you stayed with in Florence? What did you 'guys' do during your weekend besides your walk and late night eating, or did that cover most of your time there?
Can't wait to see all your pictures you've accumulated on your amazing journey!!!
You're asleep :-( , I'm awake , no way to say hi in person, woe is mom! Love ya, miss!!!
Always, mom
lol you are funny :)
Deleteyes, i do have a pic of the couple i stayed with - it's on my regular camera. Our walk and late night eating was pretty much what we did together, everything else I was doing on my own because Stefano was working on Saturday and he was sick on Sunday. And Lydia wasn't feeling well on Saturday and had service/meeting sunday.
I had a dream last nite that i came home. or was it a nightmare??? lol i missssss you and the family but i still don't want to come home :(
Be positive. You couldn't have taken this journey if it hadn't started at home! Come home and appreciate all the things that helped you get to take this trip and start planning your next one. Were you here when they announced that we all invited to the international convention now? With this trip under your belt maybe you can get approved to go somewhere. It doesn't have to be a bad thing that you are coming home. Talk to all your friends and see if they have gone anywhere else and stay focused on your next adventure. You can do it!! Lots of love and stay happy, dear, dear niece.
DeleteLove T,A, and Newman (who needs Nadia time :)
I had heard about the convention being opened but haven't gotten all the details. I am coming to terms with coming home lol I'm excited to plan my next adventure!
